International students are welcome to apply for the research ideas competition hosted by International Development Research Center (IDRC). The competition looks to promote sustainability, health, and equity in developing, Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).

The competition is aimed at providing a long-lasting change for people. The IDRC is in partnership with the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public health and also the faculty of arts and sciences. Together they manage and run the competition ensuring ethical oversight, scientific integrity, and inclusivity.

The research competition will also be a way to inspire novel research ideas which is a good way to strengthen policy interventions, population health, environmental sustainability and/or health, gender, and social equity in LMICs.

The ideas are to help propagate health and environmental benefits by addressing an immediate issue of interlinked nutrition and environmental challenges and knowledge gaps that impede shifts towards healthier and sustainable food systems.

Scholarship Value and Benefits

This IDRC Research Ideas Competition will provide several awards to cover the full cost of studying in the country. This includes: $10,000 CAD each administered directly to the primary applicant..

Eligibility

Students who wish to show their interest in the IDRC Research Ideas Competition 2022/2023 Fully Funded Scholarship in Canada for International Students will have to meet the following requirements:

  • You should ensure that your application is submitted early
  • International students, as well as Italian students, are eligible to apply for this scholarship
  • Applicant for the IDRC Research Ideas Competition must Doctoral or Post-doctoral students that are either Canadians, Permanent Residents of Canada, or citizens of LMICs
  • Applicants are required to submit at maximum of 5 pages research idea that addresses or proffers solutions to any of the following a theoretical or practical grounding in specific local LMIC context(s), the relevance of an idea to local research, policy or community actors, and how an idea builds on previous engagement with local actors.
